When it comes to building an investment portfolio, you may have specific goals that reflect your risk tolerance, time horizon or asset class preferences. Whatever your needs, we can help you develop an investment strategy that works for you.

Your primary investment objective could be one of many things. It could be to preserve your wealth, derive a regular income or achieve strong, inflation-beating growth. Regardless, at RBC Wealth Management, we will take the time to understand you and your goals, with one of our Investment Counsellors by your side every step of the way to ensure your investment strategy reflects your circumstances and needs both now and in the future.

Entrust the investment of your wealth to a dedicated portfolio manager

If you’re too busy to maintain a high level of ongoing involvement in managing a portfolio, or perhaps aren’t interested in making investment decisions, then discretionary investment management may be right for you.

Discretionary investment management is an approach to investing whereby you delegate day-to-day decision making to an investment manager. As your investment manager, we will make decisions on your behalf, applying our experience and expertise, while ensuring the primary focus remains on the objectives and parameters clearly articulated by you.

Make your own investment decisions while drawing on specialist expertise and resources

If you desire some form of control or influence over the management of your investment portfolio, you may want to opt for an advisory service.

Investment advisory refers to an approach whereby you make the ongoing investment decisions based on advice from your Investment Counsellor. We will help you build your strategy while providing expertise and advice encompassing portfolio construction, asset allocation and re-investment suggestions, as well as a wide range of detailed research from across RBC’s global network. This includes access to in-house product specialists spanning the major asset classes, ranging from equities and fixed income to foreign exchange-linked and other structured products.

Enjoy the best of both worlds

As a client, you can always opt for a combination of discretionary and advisory investment management. For example, you may wish to be involved in decision making in instances where you have a particular viewpoint, while delegating the general management of your portfolio to us. It’s entirely up to you how we work together. Should you favour this approach, your Investment Counsellor will be on hand when required to help you make an informed decision.

It is important to note that the capital value of, and income from, any investment may go down as well as up and you may not get back the full amount invested.
