Gea Hong Tho is managing director and head of Wealth Management, South East Asia, Singapore branch. She is also chief executive, Singapore branch.
Prior to Royal Bank of Canada, Tho was head of Private Banking, South East Asia, EFG Bank AG, Singapore branch, from 2012 to 2016. She was also deputy chief executive officer of the Singapore branch.
Tho was previously managing director and market director for Singapore, Malaysia and Financial Advisory Centre at Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management. In her role, she managed a team of private wealth managers in delivering personalised financial solutions tailored to private clients’ needs. Tho joined Merrill Lynch in 2004 as sales manager for the South Asia Advisory. She assumed the role of market director for Singapore in 2005 before taking on additional responsibility for Malaysia in 2007.
She started her career as a trainee officer with DBS Bank Ltd. and was with DBS Bank Ltd for 17 years. During her tenure with DBS Bank, Tho was the youngest branch manager in 1991 for DBS Battery Road branch. Her success in the growth of business, as well as management of staff, led her to be selected for several key roles.
Tho was instrumental in setting up the priority banking segment, heading the onshore priority banking when the new segment was launched in 2000. When priority banking and consumer banking were merged, Tho assumed the role of district manager for DBS, City District where she led a team of 300 staff across eight branches in the business district, including the bank’s head office branch.
Tho holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the National University of Singapore.
