Michael Reed is head of RBC Wealth Management, Southeast Asia and chief executive, RBC Singapore.
Since joining Royal Bank of Canada in 2003, he has held leadership roles in Canada, the U.S. and the British Isles. Before moving to Asia, Michael was head of Multi-Family Offices for RBC Wealth Management in London. Previous to this, he was deputy head of Private Clients and head of the International Private Banking Group in London. In these roles, Michael was responsible for family offices and ultra-high-net-worth clients globally, including those from the Middle East, Europe, the Americas and South and East Asia regions.
Michael started his career in the Canadian financial services industry working for an investment solution provider. He worked as a private client advisor before moving to RBC to join the Financial Advisory Solutions and Wealth Management Services team. He was also head of Affluent and Retirement Client Strategy. In his role as managing director, Michael integrated and ran RBC Trust Company (Delaware) Limited, a newly acquired international fiduciary solutions provider based in the U.S. He also acted as a director on the American Gift Fund, a U.S.-based 501(c)3 registered charity.
Michael holds an honours degree in Economics from Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario) and completed his Master of Business Administration through the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University (Chicago) and the Schulich School of Business at York University (Toronto). From 2003 to 2006, he acted on the panel of examiners for the Financial Planning Standards Council, a non-governmental, self-regulatory body.
He holds various professional accreditations, including Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) and Chartered Investment Manager (CIM).
Michael is licensed with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in Hong Kong.
