{"id":54302,"date":"2018-12-06T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-12-06T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rbcwealthmanagement.com\/en-eu\/?p=249"},"modified":"2026-06-01T20:44:38","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T20:44:38","slug":"students-take-the-lead-for-the-future-of-work","status":"publish","type":"rbcwm_community","link":"https:\/\/www.rbcwealthmanagement.com\/en-uk\/community\/insights\/students-take-the-lead-for-the-future-of-work","title":{"rendered":"Students \u2018Take the Lead\u2019 for the future of work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" id=\"h-the-old-vic-s-take-the-lead-initiative-will-roll-out-to-hundreds-of-young-people-helping-prepare-them-for-life-after-school-nbsp\">The Old Vic&#8217;s Take the Lead initiative will roll out to hundreds of young people, helping prepare them for life after school.&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A free employability programme will see young people take to the stage to develop vital communication skills to help&nbsp;<span>bridge the knowledge gap between the jobs of today and careers of tomorrow.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span>The Old Vic theatre will deliver their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oldvictheatre.com\/join-in\/for-teachers\/take-the-lead\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-ext\" rel=\"noopener\">Take the Lead programme<\/a> to students between the ages of 16 and 18 who will learn and build core skills such as communication, problem solving, teamwork,&nbsp;self-management and self-belief.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a successful pilot in 2018, Take the Lead will roll out to hundreds of young people in 2019 across s<span>pring and summer school terms.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span>\u201c<\/span>We\u2019re thrilled to deliver an innovative scheme that will inspire and equip young people with&nbsp;techniques to unlock their full potential,<span>\u201d<\/span> says Matthew Warchus, artistic director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oldvictheatre.com\/about-us\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-ext\" rel=\"noopener\">The Old Vic<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The skills learned can be immediately transferred to interviews, future jobs and further education, and are also key to building a theatrical company and staging a production. Workshops will explore these skills through the framework of creating a production, drawing on The Old Vic\u2019s extensive experience as a theatrical institution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span>\u201cW<\/span>e&#8217;re committed to promoting and investing in young people\u2019s skills for the future,<span>\u201d<\/span> says Desir\u00e9e Clarke Noble, managing director and global head, Sustainability and Impact, RBC Capital Markets regional head, Citizenship, RBC Europe. <span>\u201cA<\/span>nd through our partnership with The Old Vic, we can use theatre as a way of building confidence and positive communication skills.<span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The spring roll out will see 20 schools take part in five phases, each appropriately named after a theatrical theme:&nbsp;Curtain Up, Learn Your Part, Build Your Company, Take to the Stage and Curtain Call. No previous stage experience is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rbcwealthmanagement.com\/en-eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/12\/group-of-students-attend-the-old-vic-theatre-session-in-page.jpg\" alt=\"group of students attend the old vic theatre session\" class=\"wp-image-813\" style=\"width:778px;height:518px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" id=\"h-curtain-up\">Curtain up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first phase, launched in February with 450 young people over three sessions, brought a range of speakers, including&nbsp;executives RBC as principal sponsor, to inspire and empower students with their own career journey. The students were given the opportunity to ask questions, see a performance, take part in a workshop and network with peers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hannah Fosker, education &amp; community director at The Old Vic, added: <span>\u201c<\/span>Curtain Up was a wonderful start to this exciting initiative. Staff and speakers were left feeling very inspired by the young people we met. We&#8217;re very much looking forward to working with them and seeing what they&#8217;ll achieve.<span>\u201d<\/span><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rbcwealthmanagement.com\/en-eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2018\/12\/group-of-students-attend-the-old-vic-theatre-in-page.jpg\" alt=\"group of students attend the old vic theatre\" class=\"wp-image-814\" style=\"width:778px;height:518px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" id=\"h-new-skills-on-stage\">New skills on stage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next phase of the programme will explore acting techniques such as vocal work and improvising and how they&#8217;re transferable to the students\u2019 own development. They&#8217;ll also learn about the importance of self-reflection and setting objectives.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other sessions will walk students through budgeting and pitching ideas, as well as a &#8216;recruitment relay&#8217;, where they&#8217;ll practice their interview techniques one-on-one with RBC employees and Old Vic representatives.
