MINNEAPOLIS — RBC Wealth Management (U.S.) today announced the appointment of Tom Sagissor to serve as its president effective April 1.

In this newly created position, Sagissor will lead the day-to-day operations of the firm’s private client group, which is comprised of nearly 1,900 advisors in 41 states across the United States. He will take on additional responsibilities as well.

Sagissor will report to the company’s CEO, John Taft, who recently announced plans to retire on May 31, 2016. The search for Taft’s successor is already underway.

Taft’s successor will report to Russell Goldsmith, the chairman and CEO of City National Bank. Goldsmith has led both City National and RBC Wealth Management (U.S.) ever since RBC acquired City National in November, 2015.

“Tom began his career as an advisor 22 years ago and has helped build RBC into what it is today – the eighth largest brokerage firm in America,” Goldsmith said. “As president, he will play a critical leadership role in preserving the firm’s strong culture and accelerating its growth as a leading provider of banking and wealth services to entrepreneurs, professionals and families throughout the U.S.”

Sagissor currently manages RBC Wealth Management’s north central region, which includes 500 financial advisors across 15 states. He also manages three New York-based business units that are operated jointly by RBC U.S. Wealth Management (U.S.) and RBC Capital Markets: IMM (institutional middle-market fixed income business), EMM (equity middle-market business) and CES (corporate executive services).

In 1993, following a career in professional hockey, Sagissor joined Dain Bosworth (a predecessor company of RBC Wealth Management, U.S.). During his time as a divisional director, he recruited more than 100 financial advisors who earned over $100 million in revenue.

Sagissor graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and was a member of the school’s 1990 national championship hockey team. He holds the Accredited Investor Fiduciary (AIF) designation and a number of securities licenses. He also serves on the boards of directors of the Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Herb Brooks Foundation and the Bob Suter Memorial Fund.
