In a world continually reshaped by geopolitical tensions and shifting alliances, the global investment landscape is fundamentally changing. Energy security has moved to the top of every government’s agenda. Defence spending is being recalibrated across major economies. Alliances once taken for granted are under genuine pressure. These dynamics are forcing governments, corporations and investors to rethink their positioning in an increasingly multipolar world.

Our Midyear Outlook 2026 Roadshow recently brought clients and RBC’s leading experts together across six cities in Asia under one theme: Beyond the Shadow of Conflict. The conversations were frank and forward-looking, and drew audiences eager to understand what an increasingly multipolar world means for investment.

Setting the stage: A steady hand in uncertain times

Rod Ireland, head of RBC Wealth Management in Asia, and head of Global Markets, RBC Capital Markets APAC, set the tone for the event with his opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of consistent, measured investment strategies in navigating the complexities of today’s market environment. “While market conditions shift and geopolitical risks persist, disciplined, long-term approaches have historically served investors well,” Ireland said.

Markets will keep shifting. Risks will keep evolving. What separates investors who come out ahead from those who don’t is not the absence of uncertainty, but the quality of the framework they use to navigate it. Ireland reassured attendees that the RBC team is dedicated to guiding them through the complexity of the current environment, helping them seize opportunities.

Shocks are the new normal – and that’s navigable

Juan Aronna, chief executive, RBC Hong Kong Branch, and head of Investment Solutions and Products, RBC Wealth Management in Asia, brought a reality check to that stage – one that acknowledged the difficulty of the current market environment while reframing it as an opportunity.

He painted a picture of a world characterized by perpetual shocks – from geopolitical tensions to rapid technological shifts. “Markets face constant headwinds,” Aronna noted, “yet history shows us one truth: markets evolve, economies adapt and investors who understand these dynamics stay ahead.”

Every era of disruption has ultimately given way to recovery, recalibration and new cycles of growth. Aronna’s remarks highlighted the importance of remaining agile and informed, leveraging historical patterns to anticipate future trends.

Technology is still writing the future

Alan Robinson, senior portfolio advisor, RBC Wealth Management–U.S., provided valuable insights into the U.S. equity market – a market that is deeply relevant to Asia-based portfolios. He brought a cross-Pacific lens to the conversation, highlighting why secular trends in technology, particularly the investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, remain central to any long-term strategic outlook. “Investing in companies navigating these evolving competitive landscapes are part of any forward-looking strategy,” Robinson asserted.

His analysis underscored the interplay between technological advancements and geopolitical realities, reinforcing the need for strategic foresight – and careful selection. Understanding which companies are genuinely capturing value from secular tailwinds – rather than simply riding broader market momentum – is where the real opportunity lies.

The event featured a dynamic panel discussion that brought together RBC’s strategists to tackle the big regional and global topics that are top of mind for investors.

Diversification remains the bedrock

Harn Tan, chief investment officer, RBC Wealth Management in Asia, and head of Investment Solutions and Products, RBC Wealth Management Singapore Branch, contributed to the discussion by emphasizing the enduring relevance of traditional safe-haven assets. “These assets maintain their historical roles, while emerging markets reflect local economic developments,” he explained.

His remarks underscored what remains true across every market cycle: region and sector diversification isn’t just a risk-management tool – it’s the foundation of a resilient portfolio. He noted that, globally, central banks’ actions continue to signal ongoing monetary adjustments, and that understanding the interplay between those signals and real-world portfolio positioning is what separates reactive investing from informed strategy. “Diversification across regions and sectors remains a foundational principle,” Tan affirmed, highlighting the importance of a well-rounded investment strategy in today’s complex environment.

A clear framework for an evolving market

The Midyear Outlook 2026 Roadshow successfully brought together thought leaders and industry experts to examine the shifting global landscape through the lens of conflict and collaboration. Across every city and every conversation, one conviction held firm: in a multipolar world shaped by geopolitical flux, technological acceleration and evolving monetary policy, the investors who come out ahead are those with a clear framework – diversified, selective and built for the long term.

Thank you to everyone who joined us across Asia. RBC looks forward to continuing these important conversations and supporting clients as they navigate the road ahead.
