MINNEAPOLIS (August 6, 2016) – Nearly 3,000 people participated in the RBC Race for the Kids Minnesota Half Marathon and 6K on Saturday, August 6. To date, this year’s Race has raised more than $100,000 to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest.

The unique event featured a half marathon run or skate, a relay-half marathon, a 6K run or walk, and a kids run. Local mascots, including Nordy, TC Bear, Crunch, Ronald McDonald, and RBC’s Leo the Lion, raced along with the kids.  Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter, a participating sponsor of the event through the Ryan and Becky Suter Foundation, skated in the half marathon.

“Each year the RBC Race for the Kids has gotten bigger and better allowing us to have an even greater impact on Ronald McDonald House Charities,” said Tom Sagissor, president, RBC Wealth Management-U.S. in Minneapolis. “We are thrilled to have the support of Ryan Suter and all of the local mascots to help raise money for this important organization.”

“Ronald McDonald House relies on community support to provide a home away from home for families with children facing medical challenges, and we are grateful for the support of RBC,” said Jill Evenocheck, president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest. “Each year, we serve more than 5,000 families – some from across the region and others from around the globe – at our four Twin Cities’ locations.  Families are never required to pay for our services – including lodging, meals, schooling, and more – so we rely on our generous community to support our efforts.”

The RBC Race for the Kids in Minnesota is part of an exciting series of eleven charitable runs supporting children’s causes in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Trinidad & Tobago, United Kingdom and the United States. Increasing in popularity every year, RBC Race for the Kids events have attracted more than 100,000 participants to date, and raised over $16.4 million for children’s charities around the world. The races are part of our larger commitment to kids and youth through the RBC Kids Pledge, a five-year, $100 million promise to improve the well-being of one million kids and youth.

Now in its 13th year, the Minnesota Half Marathon is produced by Podium Sports Marketing. This is the third year that RBC has been the title sponsor of the race.

RBC is grateful for the support of Ryan and Becky Suter, as well as Jill Evenocheck.
