Washington, D.C. branch director recognized for her leadership and diversity efforts
MINNEAPOLIS (Nov. 12, 2021) – Beth Rafferty, director of the RBC Wealth Management – U.S. Washington, D.C., and Rockville, Md. branches, has been named the recipient of the firm’s 2021 Gail Winslow Award.
The annual award recognizes women at RBC Wealth Management who demonstrate exemplary efforts to help attract, support, and retain women financial advisors and clients. Rafferty received the award at the firm’s Women’s Association of Financial Advisors (WAFA) conference, which took place virtually on Nov. 10.
“Beth embodies everything the Gail Winslow Award represents,” said Warren Bischoff, director of RBC Wealth Management’s Mid Atlantic complex, which includes the Washington, D.C. and Rockville branches, and executive sponsor of the WAFA group. “Not only is she an empathetic leader, but she is also passionate about mentorship and empowering other women advisors to succeed.”
The Gail Winslow Award was established in honor and memory of Gail Winslow, a former RBC Wealth Management financial advisor who was a trailblazer for 60 years in the financial services industry.
Rafferty was recognized for her efforts to increase the number of women advisors in her branches, where women make up more than 40% of the employees. Earlier this fall, she hosted a networking luncheon for area RBC Wealth Management women employees to connect and provide support for each other in an industry where women represent only 15% of financial advisors nationwide.
Rafferty worked closely with Winslow when Winslow moved to RBC in 2008, and to this day says she feels her presence and hears her voice when she thinks about certain decisions and work-related endeavors.
“Gail was brilliant and wise, and was kind while also a force of nature; she embodied determination,” Rafferty said. “I so wish she were here to continue to guide me, but I was honored to know her and today, I am even more honored to continue her legacy.”
