A bit about your RBC experience to date:

The Wealth Management Generalist program is open to both internal and external candidates to RBC. I joined RBC directly out of school in January 2007, where I worked in the branch network as an Account Manager for 5 years in which we provided clients with support setting up their banking, investing for their future, or securing credit for their growing needs. While in the branch, I developed a passion for investments and pursued my CFA charter, which allowed me to join RBC Global Asset Management (GAM) as an Analyst in the Branch Sales Support Team. This role straddled both my existing experience of supporting sales in the branch network, as well as my investment knowledge. I was able to connect with Portfolio Managers at RBC GAM and relayed their messages to our branch sales staff. This role has fueled my curiosity of understanding more about the vast head office environment, so I started an evening MBA while in this role. The completion of my MBA allowed me to apply for the Wealth Management Generalist Program which turned out to be exactly what I needed to get a better understanding of the diverse world of Wealth Management. My rotations consisted of;

  • Investment Policy team of RBC Global Management
  • Strategy and Client Group in RBC Wealth Management
  • British Isles Investment team in London, UK

These rotations challenged me in different aspects of the business and allowed me to expand my skills, learning, and network. The experience gathered during these rotations was key in securing my next full time role with RBC Direct Investing.

Any advice you have for students:

Be curious and never stop exploring. The key to the Wealth Management Generalist program is exploring, learning, and choosing the best fit for your knowledge and understanding. Keep challenging yourself and never say no to an opportunity.
