Health-care needs in retirement are a key concern for many, whether it’s the ability to afford care later in life, and/or who will provide that care.

The toll that caregiving can have on families, individuals, businesses and society is difficult to quantify.  But we know that caregiving affects all Canadians. In fact, one-in-four Canadians is currently a caregiver, and one-in-two will become a caregiver in the future.1 It’s estimated that 75 percent of care is provided by unpaid caregivers2, saving Canadian health-care systems billions of dollars per year. Our society just couldn’t function without caregivers.

In this video, hear from a panel of specialists who discuss ways in which Canadians can better equip themselves as they navigate their own future experiences in receiving or providing care.

You’ll learn about:

  • The Canadian-Caregiver Assessment Resource Tool (C-CART) , a web-based tool for caregivers developed by Baycrest. It provides a personalized list of resources specifically curated to meet the needs of caregivers in your local area, following the completion of a short questionnaire. (To make these great resources more accessible to Canadians, the RBC Foundation is supporting development of the C-CART app.)
  • Techniques you can use to start difficult caregiving conversations with loved ones.
  • Why powers of attorney documents are increasingly important for property and for care decisions.
  • Specific costs associated with aging at home.
