Every charity is different, and so are its investment needs. We work with you to help ensure your investments support your organisation’s goals and responsibilities.
Helping charities achieve their investment goals has been a core part of our business for decades. While many charities share similar investment objectives, we understand that each organisation’s circumstances and priorities are unique.
That’s why we take the time to understand your charity’s objectives, financial position and appetite for risk. This insight informs how we structure a discretionary portfolio tailored to your needs, supported by a carefully considered investment philosophy and rigorous process.
We also guide the development and ongoing review of your Investment Policy Statement, ensuring all investment decisions remain aligned with your charity’s values, regulatory responsibilities and long-term goals.
Every portfolio carries risk. Our role is to help you understand where that risk sits, how it may evolve and whether it remains appropriate for your charity’s objectives.
Diversification across asset classes and sectors provides a foundation, but oversight extends beyond that. Holdings are reviewed in light of company-specific, market and economic developments, with adjustments made where necessary to support your governance responsibilities.
Your investments will benefit from firm-wide oversight. Each month, our Asset Allocation Committee reviews market conditions and sets the strategic direction that informs our portfolios.
That strategy is implemented by your dedicated investment manager, who applies it to your charity’s specific circumstances. You will meet regularly to review positioning, performance and any changes to your requirements.
As most of us are trustees ourselves, we know your investment decisions must reflect the charity’s mission. Ethical criteria can be incorporated into portfolios through both positive and negative screening, using global responsible-investment research tools.
We work with trustees and charity leaders to balance return objectives with organisational values – and remain available to review restrictions as priorities evolve. Currently, 24% of our charity clients invest under an ethical or socially responsible policy, representing 39% of charity funds under management.
We’ve developed a framework for RBC Brewin Dolphin that outlines our approach to responsible and sustainable investment. Find out more about our approach.
