Our fees and charges

Self-directed investing

Understanding investment costs can be complex, so we’re committed to making this process as transparent and straightforward as possible. Our goal is to ensure you have a clear picture of all fees and charges before making any decisions.

Brewin Portfolio Service (BPS) offers a simple, two-part fee structure

Part 1: Service fee

Our annual service fee is 0.45 percent of the value of your portfolio. This gives you access to an investment solution carefully created by our in-house experts.

Part 2: Underlying fund charges

You will also pay charges on the underlying funds in which your money is invested. These are deducted monthly by the fund managers before your returns are paid, so you don’t see them, but you need to know about it.

How much is that in real money?

The tables below illustrate, in cash terms, exactly how much you’ll pay for the management of Brewin Portfolio Service (BPS).

As you can see, the charges rise depending on the portfolio balance. Any other charges that may apply, such as for withdrawals or account closures, can be seen in our fees and charges document.

Total cost of £59 per year on an Active portfolio value of £5,000

What this means for a £5,000 investment

Based on a portfolio value of £5,000 we estimate your total charges in a year would be £27 for one of our Passive solutions or £59 for one of our Active solutions (some people prefer to see these figures as a percentage of their £5,000, which would be 0.54% and 1.18% respectively).

*Our service fee makes up £22.50 of this, which will show on your statement as a £1.88 monthly deduction regardless of whether you are in Active or Passive.

The remaining fee is the ongoing charges figure (OCF) to cover the investment costs (management, transaction, administrative). This is taken by the investment managers before the returns are paid and will not show as a deduction on your statement, but you should be aware of it. OCF costs are typically between:

  • 0.07% and 0.09% per year for our Passive solutions
  • 0.61% and 0.73% per year for our Active solutions
